Did you know that there are 24 different ways to win playing craps? Despite the slightly peculiar name of this game, Craps is a very fun and common game to play at best rated online casinos because the odds are on the side of the player. With only 6 different ways of losing, Craps offers 4:1 odds of winning for the Player, this is why they always show this game in major films like Casino, Rushmore and 21 with loads of players crowding around cheering and blowing on each others’ dice. This is a fun game if you learn how to play it, and you can even win some money too if you know how much to wager. Unfortunately, this is the tricky part.
The possible numbers that can be rolled are two through twelve. Take a look at the below Craps table to get a better idea of what the game looks like. When you play Craps basically what you are doing is placing a wager on the player rolling the dice. You are betting that the number rolled by the player is the one you need to win. It’s almost as if this is a team game as all the players are rooting for the same guy to roll their number. Under no way are you in direct competition with the player who is rolling the dice, so feel free to cheer for him or her!
The most common bet in Craps is the PASS LINE bet. See below for an example. You place your chips on the area designated as the “PASS LINE”. This type of wager is also referred to as a series wager. This just means that the player rolling the dice may need to roll multiple times to determine an outcome and for you to win!
The first roll of the dice by the player who can also be referred to as the “Shooter”, is called the come-out-roll. The come-out-roll has nothing to do with closets. On this first roll, 7 or 11 are automatic Pass Line winners and the series ends. This is why you may periodically hear the phrase “Come on 7, mama needs a new pair of shoes!” at the start of the come-out-roll.
Of course if there are automatic PASS LINE winners, there will inevitably be automatic PASS LINE losers which we refer to as CRAPS. These are when the Shooter rolls either a 2, 3 or 12 on the come-out-roll.
This leaves us with the remaining numbers, 4,5,6,8,9,10. If the player rolls either of these numbers, it is know as the Shooter’s point and then they are asked to roll again and the anticipation just builds even higher! When this happens, things start to get trickier.
Now the object of the series becomes for the Shooter to roll their point number again before they roll a 7. Now, if any of the previously mentioned numbers are rolled other than a 7, nothing happens and the Shooter rolls again. If the point number is rolled next, PASS LINE wagers are settled as wins and the series ends.
On the other hand, if a 7 is rolled before the point number, then PASS LINE wagers are settled as losses.
Before we let you loose on the below practice table, allow us to wrap this up with an example.
Let’s say Tom, Dick and Harry are at a Craps table. Tom has the dice and is referred to as the Shooter, whereas Dick and Harry are players who have placed their chips on the PASS LINE.
If Tom rolls a 7 or a 11 on his first roll, Dick and Harry are happy campers!
If Tom rolls a 2, 3 or a 12 on his first roll, Dick and Harry will probably never speak to him again!
If Tom rolls a 4,5,6,8,9,10 on his first roll which then becomes his point number, he then needs to keep rolling the dice until he hits that point number again or hits a 7, whatever comes first. If the point number comes first, then Dick and Harry will buy Tom new shoes, but if a 7 comes up before the point number, Tom will have to walk back home. It seriously is a emotional roller coaster ride where at first you are cheering for a 7, but then after the come-out-roll, you fear it like the plague!
Lastly, let’s talk about Snake Eyes. Snake Eyes are when a player rolls a two in Craps. They call it Snake Eyes because they look like eyes, and snake because it is not a good roll for the Shooter.
Snake Eyes – When you roll a two in craps, it is called ‘Snake Eyes’ – eyes because they look like eyes, snake because they are bad news for the shooter.
